SWJ is celebrating our second anniversary. What better time to reflect on the industry recognition we have achieved since conception and what else we’ve got coming up?

The LABC Building Excellence Awards are promoted as ‘the largest business to business awards in the building control sector.’ LABC

SWJ were collaborators with NC Architects Ltd. Square One Construction Ltd and Dick Lovett, on the project to build a new showroom over three floors and including a split level. SWJ was asked to create a level platform across 8-metre site level differences to realise the architect’s vision for Aston Martin. And as the appointed structural engineers for this prestigious project, SWJ were proud to be invited along to see Bill Pier of NC Architects receive the trophy for Best Large Commercial Project.

SWJ entered alongside NC Architects and were awarded Highly Commended in the category of Best Large Commercial Project, with Jaguar Land Rover in Melksham.

The project involved the construction of two connected buildings on the same plot with very different uses; a showroom and a workshop, connected by offices and hampered by the discovery of unexploded bombs on site.

An interesting story with challenges along the way that resulted in the stunning commercial building pictured below.

West Oxfordshire Business Awards March 2019 – Finalists for New Business Award

SWJ was encouraged to enter our local business awards and discovered the value of going through the entry process. Our entry form included illustrations of the challenges we have faced as a growing business, and stories of how we overcame those challenges.

We are profoundly proud of reaching the final three, in a competitive category for West Oxfordshire and the lessons we learned from taking a magnifying glass to the business were felt keenly. We’re looking forward to the outcome of the next two awards we have entered as a business.

Oxfordshire Business Awards June 2019 – Finalists for New Business Award

Yet to be announced, SWJ are in the running for another local business award. The finalists were announced at the beginning of May this year and the Gala Dinner will take place in June.

Having learned from our experience with the West Oxfordshire awards entry process, we are hopeful that our entry for Oxfordshire will be successful.

Jack FM Brick Awards June 2019 – Business of the Year Award

Jack FM’s local business awards are as new as we are and so being involved to support the initiative is exciting to us. However, this award is slightly different from the rest in that we were initially nominated for this category, so receiving the news that we were invited to complete an entry form was particularly gratifying. We are looking forward to the announcements being made at the Bodleian Library in June and will keep you updated whatever the results.

Updated March 2023 – SWJ COnsulting were finalists at the Jack FM Brick awards.

SWJ headquarters are in the market town of Witney, Oxfordshire. So far, we have succeeded as finalists in the three local awards we have been a part of, won highly commended in one national award and our project has been named an overall winner in another national award.

Attending award entry workshops, celebrations of business and awards presentation evenings are teaching us the value of having a presence in our local area and wider industry market. We have taken advantage of the opportunities for networking with other businesses and meet other people with the same vested interests.

Ultimately, we believe that our structural engineering practice benefits from the addition of these accolades. Our people feel valued, our partners have faith in our processes, and we become a more attractive proposition to potential clients and new employees. Nominations, reaching finals, and winning awards helps build trust in SWJ, so we will continue to share our successful projects and business acumen with more awards to come.
