Rhys

Rhys Skym – Managing Director

MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE

Rhys is a chartered structural engineer with over 18 years of experience, successfully delivering projects of up to £40m in value in a variety of fields, including building structures, earth retaining structures and adopted highway structures, but his true interests lie in design work with particular emphasis on work with historical buildings.

As managing director, Rhys is responsible for Health & Safety and financial control of the practice.

Russell Wrapson – Director

EngTech TIStructE

Russell has over 20 years of experience within the industry and has worked on a wide range of projects in a variety of sectors including residential, commercial and education. Russell has vast experience of working on reinforced concrete framed buildings within the residential and education sector and steel framed commercial buildings.

Passionate about the use of technology in assisting the industry to get the best results for the end users, Russell is responsible for our technology and innovation strategies and is highly skilled at delivering projects in accordance with the clients EIR’s.

Sam Johnston – Director

BEng (Hons) MSc

Sam has over 9 years’ experience of delivering structural design projects across multiple sectors including education, commercial, social housing and private residential, often in constrained sites throughout London and The Home Counties.

Experienced in delivering  multiple projects simultaneously and managing the expectations of key stakeholders, Sam has clear strategy and organisational skills. Sam is another enthusiast of design and construction technology and uses available design tools to assist with the delivery of projects; mitigating the risk of errors in traditional design methods.

Gary Chesher – Associate Director

MSc BEng(Hons) CEng MICE MIStructE

Gary is a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer who joined our team at SWJ Consulting on the 23rd March 2021 as an Associate Director.

He has previously worked with small and large consulting engineers in St Albans and London. Working with these organisations Gary has gained a wide-ranging professional experience, from small domestic properties to multi-million-pound school, college and university buildings to an underground station at Canary Wharf. For the past 10 years, Gary has been a Supervising Civil Engineer overseeing the training of graduates to become chartered. He is also passionate about working with other construction professionals to help solve the clients’ challenges.

Jordan Day – Structural Technician

BTEC Extended National Diploma in Engineering, HNC Civil Engineering

Jordan has 9 years’ experience in the engineering field. Having met and impressed Rhys, Russell and Sam during his six-year employment together at a previous company, Jordan was the ideal candidate for when SWJ’s success created an opportunity for a structural technician.

Jordan’s strengths lie within the 3D built environment and following engineer’s mark-ups to create structural and civil drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.

Poonam Lad – Structural Technician

Poonam joined in summer 2018 from a larger multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy. Her role as a technician is mainly office based where she supports the team using technologies such as Revit and AutoCAD. She has integrated with ease into the team and is looking forward to continuing her education to achieve her goal of becoming a Structural Engineer. The 2-year course will enable her to become an EngTech TIStructE with Membership of the IStructE as an Engineering Technician.

Christi Jose – Structural Engineer

MTech

Christi joined SWJ Consulting in 2022 and has extensive experience with high-rise concrete buildings in India and across the globe. Having completed a Batchelors in civil engineering and a Masters in structural engineering, Christi worked for Tata Consulting Engineers from 2015/16 before moving to Buro Happold Engineering, both in Mumbai, India.

Christi’s approach to working is systematic and exact, using computational workflow and excel macro programming, to automate time-consuming tasks and achieve a faster and more flexible design procedure.

Parth Shah – Graduate Structural Engineer

MSc

Parth joined SWJ after recently achieving a Masters degree with Distinction in Advanced Structural Engineering from Heriot-Watt University. The course helped him to increase his set of skills greatly which he will be able to apply here at SWJ. It involved the completion of individual building designs and structural analysis, which simultaneously fed his passion and creativity for architecture and structures.

During Parth’s free time he enjoys exploring new places, reading mystery novels or playing sports.

Matthew Brown – Graduate Structural Engineer

MEng (Hons)

Whilst achieving a integrated Masters degree in civil engineering from the University of Exeter, Matt spent a year in industry at SWJ and returned for a summer placement before joining the team permanently once he completed his studies. His time at SWJ during his year in industry gave Matt valuable industry insight and experience which piqued his interest in structural engineering.

Matt is interested in the change of use and refurbishment of existing structures so that they can gain a new lease on life. In his free time Matt enjoys sports, salsa dancing, and reading.

Charlotte Johnston – Office Manager

With previous experience in customer services and administration Charlotte joined the team in October 2018 to coordinate the day to day running of the office and company. Charlotte has taken the company through a successful ISO 9001 application and process, co-ordinates the marketing activity managing external agencies and suppliers, liaises with clients and acts as PA for the three directors as needed.

Tess Brooker – Assistant to the Directors

Tess joined SWJ in September 2017. With a 30 year background in sales and marketing, project management and administration Tess uses her skills to support the directors in ensuring jobs are progressed in a timely manner. Tess also handles invoicing and credit control functions.
