Christi Jose joined SWJ Consulting in 2022 and has extensive experience with high-rise concrete buildings in India and across the globe. Having completed a Batchelors in civil engineering and a Masters in structural engineering, Christi worked for Tata Consulting Engineers from 2015/16 before moving to Buro Happold Engineering, both in Mumbai, India.

At Buro Happold, Christi was able to gain experience on large and prestigious concrete ductile shear wall buildings including the Amravati Capital City, one of the company’s biggest projects undertaken. The project consisted of five 200+m tall towers with a podium structure. Christi worked in coordination with the most talented structural engineers in the world to finalise the first-ever proposed steel – diagrid tower structural system in India.

As part of this project, Christi worked closely with geotechnical engineers to arrive at the optimum depth of the tower’s raft using the latest versions of finite element tools available in the market as well as proposing the most optimised rectangular steel hollow sections for diagrid members and contributing to resolving RFIs raised by contractor and client. His role included considering the complex system of the towers’ lateral system and proposing viable solutions for floor platforms and coupling beams. To this end, Christi completed the research to derive solutions from international journal papers when there were no codes to inform design criteria.

Christi’s career in India gave him experience on multi-storey concrete buildings across all sectors from commercial, to residential to hospitals. On the Godrej Badra Residential Tower, in Mumbai, Christi analysed the structure using ETABS analysis & design software to ensure the performance of the towers was within the limit as specified by relevant clauses of IS Codes and based on gravity and lateral load estimate, determine the optimum thickness of raft foundation for tower structure.

Christi’s approach to working is systematic and exact, using computational workflow and excel macro programming, to automate time-consuming tasks and achieve a faster and more flexible design procedure.
